This is fun - Russian Math!
I was reading some posts on a home school website about kids and counting with their fingers. Alex really doesn't do that very much. He is able to do addition with his head. When I ask him a question, his chin goes in the air, he squints a little and you can see him mentally working it out.
One of the moms put a link to this site with a little trick to doing higher multiplication from www.stumbleupon.com. I thought it was pretty cool.
You can teach a student a lesson for a day; but if you can teach him to learn by creating curiosity, he will continue the learning process as long as he lives. ~Clay P. Bedford

Our Family
We are an accidental homeschool family, sharing and nurturing a lifelong love of learning. Our style is secular, eclectic and very relaxed.
There's Rob, the husband, dad and (lucky for the kids) guy in charge of math and science. He's funny, a little geeky and incredibly lovable.
Alex is the boy (03/03). Sweet, sensitive and scarily smart - that's our boy! Our own geek in the making too, already obsessed with Star Wars, Lego and, shockingly, video games.
Izzy is the girl (11/05). She brings the party wherever she goes. Always dancing, laughing and singing, she has a zest for life that leaves smiles in her wake. Sharp as a tack too but won't display her talents for show.
And me! The mom/diplomat/cheerleader. A prolific reader, novice writer and all around curious girl who enjoys sharing the days with my kidlets and experiencing life through their eyes.
