On a funny side note...

A few years ago I attended a friend's bachelorette party and was treated to my first ever encounter with a psychic reader. It was actually quite a bit of fun. I mean, you can't get any more skeptical than me, which she 'read' when I sat down with her, lol, but she did mention something that has sat with me these past few years. She told me that I would find a career, accidentally, to do with writing. It would literally fall into my lap since I am not likely to pursue paid work. I thought or hoped she meant that I was finally going to finish (write?) a novel. Well, no time to even read much for pleasure these days (at least books for me), so definitely no time to sit and write for hours each day. I have had something fall in my lap though. Resumes. Lots and lots of resumes. Turns out I am really good at making them up for people. And I enjoy doing it. A few I had done for the odd friend or neighbour has turned snowballed into a bonafide small business. Or, it could if I had the time. I can't believe how many people would hire my services if I really threw myself into it. Nice to have a little extra cash though. It has been years since I made real actual money!

Funny how things happen. Resume writing - of all things!

September 3rd...

...and I am already tired! Izzy has been a bear the last few days. First day of school jitters are wearing us all down. Iz is stressed but still wants to go. Mostly. Today we went to the school to check the class lists. Her friend (and classmate) M came with us. They wandered the halls, drank from the fountain and found their names on the Kindergarten door. Alex requested to stay home and sat and read on a neighbour's porch. Apparently he isn't even curious about school, lol. Her class is Monday through Friday from 8:30 - 11:15am. 19 kids in the class, 11 boys and 8 girls.

We've been cleaning and organizing the whole house, literally top to bottom. Plus, doing some Fall tidying and maintenance. My calendar is filling up at a break-neck speed. Aside from the whole first week of school/driving Alex to friend's for a drop-off and pick-up (so he can head into the city with them), I have meetings, interviews and lots of other stuff next week. But, this weekend I have to bake a cake for neice's birthday, attend neighbourhood Labour Day bbq, teach Alex the words to God Save The Queen, teach him to square dance, introduce him to the concept of a spelling bee, bake homemade lunches for pioneer week...and the list goes on.

Apparently the race is on. Away we go!

...and a month flys by!

Sheesh, nothing for the month of June. You would think I wasn't up to anything. Here is a sampling of what we were up to.

Bought a kiddie pool. What a pain too. Too small for chlorine, too big to dump all the time. Not the smartest purchase ever...but the kids *LOVE* it.



Cleaned up the yard. Last Fall we took out an over grown tree and last month I tackled some neglected garden beds. Cleaned up the rose bush. Added some annuals. Planted a bunch of tomatoes, peppers, and a raspberry bush and strawberry plant.



Got ready for...attended...and celebrated Izzy's dance recital. She had a blast! I have more to tell about the event but am waiting for the video to post at the same time.



Took a day trip to Black Creek Pioneer Village with our home school friends.



Rob took a week off and we took him to see the Stingrays at the Toronto Zoo. The kids and I saw them the year before without Rob.



Bought daddy Guitar Hero for the Wii. Turns out everyone but Rob really sucks at it. Still, the guitar-mote is very cool.



Cooking and baking up a a storm! Hard not to be inspired by goodies like fresh strawberries and rhubarb from the farmer's market. This became the first cobbler of the season. So yummy!!



Add in a trip to Splash Island, loads of play time with friends just out of school and some math work on the side and you have a pretty good idea of what June looked like for us,

Funny enough, this was the modified schedule of activities. I hurt my knee and had to cancel a trip to London with friends. We tried to slow down a bit last month. Almost succeeded too, lol.

Life in the fast lane

Is it an age thing? A busy parent thing? You know, that weird feeling that life is passing by too quickly. When people ask what you've been up to you can't answer...though you know you've been busy. Too busy.

I actually had to look at my date book to remember what we've been up to. Sad, I know. There were all the lessons. A day trip to visit my nieces and nephew. Monday we went on a hike through the Marsh with some friends. That is Alex in the photo holding a toad. More than 2 kilometres were trekked that morning. No wonder the little ones were complaining, lol. That same afternoon we made a quick trip into the city to wish our dear friend "Feather" a happy birthday. As Alex remarked in the car, she looks darn good for 14!

This week looks to end up with more of the same. A few more classes, our biweekly pilgrimage to the library and more visits with friends. It would be nice to stay home this weekend. I have an awful lot of stuff around the house I would like to get done. Okay, not like to do but have to do. I am already 5 months behind on my Spring cleaning. To quote another smart home schooling mamma, "It's not cluttered, it's lived in!"
